The Upper Deschutes River Trail is certainly one of the best reminders of why it's great to be in Central Oregon. This long and stunning trail offers several different day hikes that are both family and dog friendly. Really, you can take the trail between Bend and Sunriver, but the portion of that is the Upper Deschutes River Trail is typically regarded starting from Meadow Day Use Area to Benham Falls. Each access point has a unique hiking experience and I recommend seeing them all!

In order of access points, there is Meadow Day Use, Lava Island Falls, Big Eddy, Aspen, Dillon Falls, Slough, Benham Falls West and Benham Falls East. All photos below were taken by me, on different dates, but they start at Meadow Day Use and end on the trail to Sunriver.

I have biked these trails a few times as well and I certainly love the stretch from Dillon Falls to Benham Falls the best for biking! I also used to trail run on the Deschutes River Trail, the whole trail is great for running but my favorite was the stretch from Lava Island to Dillon Falls.
