Spencer Butte is a staple for Eugene locals, especially among the university students, like myself. It is a popular hike you can partake in year round and you will almost always run into a someone with a doggo also sharing the trail with you, which for me is certainly a perk! My pups have always been at home when I am away at school and seeing some happy furry faces is a treat. You will probably see plenty of squirrels and birds along the trail as well. It is not too challenging but the trail can be slick on wet days. If you are new to hiking or new to the area, Spencer Butte is a safe place to start your hiking journey in Eugene.
