I will go to Smith Rock several times a year... or month... and enjoy it just as much as the first time. There really is plenty of natural beauty to see year round! It is dog and family friendly, but you will want to keep your dog on a leash.
What to expect when going to Smith Rock:
It can be rather windy at times
Pack plenty of water
Trails are easy to follow but you will want proper shoes that provide some traction
Warmer weather brings out all our nature friends like snakes and bugs so do be careful where you step
I have hiked Misery Ridge and it was certainly worth hiking the rocky incline. Of course, I will almost always say the hike was worth the view and experience, but do not let the name deter you from this hike. There are plenty of opportunities to catch your breathe and take a moment for water as you hike up the trail. I suggest dressing in layers, you are going to work up a sweat for sure. I personally bring my dog every time I go to Smith Rock, but I would not take her up Misery Ridge. She would pull me off the trail and down the side of the incline. My favorite part of this hike is all of "nature's windows" I encountered and I do just love the geology of Smith Rock!
